If you have a website or blog (or aspire to have one) and you’d love to sell products…but you don’t want to have to make things, or stock inventory or ship products, until now your options were limited. I recently heard of a website that has the perfect solution for you!
OpenSky is a new commerce platform that enables the influencers of our time ie: website owners, bloggers, authors, media personalities, etc to establish direct consumer relationships with their audiences. These influencers are able to hand-select products and services related to their area of influence and expertise that they love and offer them to their audiences via their blogs, websites, newsletters, Twitter stream, Facebook pages, or public visibility.
I was talking to someone today and I mentioned a business I heard about awhile back during a telesummit that I was listening to that I was fascinated with. It’s called “Cubes and Crayons”.
It’s a daycare/office set up in Silicon Valley CA and I immediately jumped online to find out more. After I was reminded of this today, I just had to share it with you.
They offer a daycare option for children (infants – 5 years of age) in one area while the adults can work on laptops in another area that is set up like a professional office space. Parents can choose a full-time schedule, part-time schedule or just drop in care depending on their needs.
Here's what they have on their website:
"Cubes" isolate. The goal at Cubes&Crayons is to give you a great professional community while your child is playing in a safe environment. Drop your laptop on a desk or lounge chair with tablet in our open work space and start work. Wi-Fi included. No hidden charges. Mingle over coffee and cookies. If you need your privacy, just head into an office or conference room. Offices and conference rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis or by reservation for an additional fee.
I LOVE THIS IDEA!
Whether you’re selling hand-made baby slings, marketing/advertising a home-based virtual assistant business, or creating an informational website to generate a home-based income, you will need to build a website. Here are some simple steps and resources to get you started.
1. Choose your domain name, example www.theworkathomewoman.com
2. Pick a web hosting company. You will want to pick a company that offers guaranteed uptime and that has excellent customer support.
3. Build your site using a website builder, graphic designer or software like Adobe Dreamweaver or Microsoft FrontPage.
4. Make your website stand out from the crowd – hire a graphic designer to customize your site or design a custom logo for you.
5. Add lots of interesting and relevant content to your site – see our free content for your site resources below.
6. Get traffic to your site by submitting your website to search engines and by using SEO techniques.
7. Promote your website using social networks, like MySpace and Facebook. Market your site using a newsletter, see resources below.

Well, last night was the season finale of Shark Tank and once again I was so impressed with the ingenuity, drive, motivation, creativity and passion of all of the entrepreneurs. They have ideas that make some of us think why didn't I think of that! and others we think...oh my goodness, that's crazy how can they make a business out of that ?, but people are making a go of it. Some are not making as much money as they want and need, but others are doing amazingly well.
The Sharks however....are lurking....
Bon Appetite!
To me this means, I hope you enjoy the meal! It may mean something else in French, but that's what I think it means so I'm going with that.
I just finished watching the Julie & Julia movie on pay-per-view and loved it. In many ways I'm kind of having a full-circle moment with the movie that I just had to blog about.
I'm sitting at home on Sunday (5 days before Christmas) and I'm about to launch my website. There are a few items left on the to-do list but once those are done and the doors swing open my year of hard work will be open to the public.
Is Your Website Working For You The Way You Think It Is ?

I was at my local cake decorator recently purchasing a cake for a special occasion and as usual I picked up some local business cards that were laying about. These are generally for home based businesses and I always love to see who's doing what locally and so when I got home I checked out the websites.
I have spent loads of time in the past few months checking out home based business websites, and there are 5 basic things that I look for when checking out a new site, and usually I'm doing it in under 2 minutes!
When you consider create a website, there are some basic terms that will be helpful to learn as you go through the process (see below). This information below comes from www.firelightwebstudio.com.
But what if you need even more help than understanding the basics of what's involved with your website design? What if you have a great idea, but absolutely no way to fund it's creation ? Well maybe a Business Startup Grant would help? Laura Weeler from Firelight Web Studio is offering a grant of services to help. Check out : http://contest.frontporchfolks.com. This is a grant, not a contest, it is awarded based on preparedness and merit, not on chance or popularity. This site also has an excellent overview of grants in particular, and how to avoid grant scams.
